Applying to Undergraduate Programs

Applying to online undergraduate degree programs at Mary Baldwin University is straightforward. Once you contact us, our admissions staff will guide you through the application process.

Applying to Graduate Programs

We’ve made applying to the university a simple process. We’ve also streamlined the admissions requirements for our online graduate degree programs. The following provides an overview for various programs.

The admission requirements for the online Master of Business Administration program include the following:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
    • Bachelor’s degree in business is not required – the program is open to all undergraduate majors
  • No GRE/GMAT required
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary educational institutions are required
  • An essay detailing the student’s interest in the MBA program is required
  • Students need a minimum 3.0 GPA for full admission
  • Proof of English proficiency
  • No application fee

The Mary Baldwin University MHA program takes a holistic approach to reviewing applications. The university seeks to find people who combine high academic achievement with compassion. The whole student is considered rather than disproportionately focusing on one factor.

We ask MHA program candidates to share their unique strengths and qualities, along with relevant work or volunteer experiences, even if not directly related to healthcare. These factors are part of the application review and selection process.

Requirements for the MHA program include:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution 
  • No GRE/GMAT required. 
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary educational institutions are required
  • A personal statement detailing how the MHA relates to their professional goals
  • Students need a minimum 2.8 GPA for full admission
  • Pre-requisite course for the MHA program: Statistics or Research Methods (3 credit hours)
  • Proof of English proficiency
  • No application fee

The Program Director reviews applications and renders an admission decision within 3 business days. 

The requirements for the MHA/MBA program at Mary Baldwin University include those listed above for the individual programs, along with the following additions:
  • Students need a minimum 3.0 GPA for full admission
  • Pre-requisite courses: Statistics (3 credit hrs) and Research Methods (3 credit hrs)
  • Students without a background in business, accounting or an approved business-related field will take an exam to evaluate their level of business knowledge. Based on exam results, applicants may be required to take one or more pre-MBA module courses offered at MBU.
  • No application fee

The admission requirements for the MS in Applied Behavior Analysis include:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • No GRE/GMAT required.

  • No application fee

Applying to Nursing Programs

We’ve made applying to our online nursing degree programs a convenient and streamlined process. The following provides an overview of various nursing degree admission requirements.

The admission requirements to this program include the following.

  • Online application through NursingCAS: $60 application fee
  • Submit official transcripts from all post-secondary educational institutions including showing a conferred Associate Degree in Nursing
  • All transferring coursework must reflect a “C” or better
  • Current unrestricted RN license
  • Employment as an RN for a minimum of 6 months, OR plans to practice concurrently with coursework
  • Ability to meet the Nursing Department’s Technical Standards for nursing practice

The admission requirements to this hybrid graduate degree program include the following.

  • Online application through NursingCAS: $60 application fee
  • Earned BSN from an accredited CCNE and ACEN School of Nursing
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary educational institutions are required
  • Students need a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Current resume or curriculum vitae
  • Undergraduate or graduate statistics course with a “C” or better grade
  • Undergraduate research course with a “C” or better grade
  • Undergraduate nursing leadership course with a “C” or better grade
  • Proof of English proficiency

The admission requirements for this hybrid graduate degree program include the following.

  • Online application through NursingCAS: $60 application fee
  • Earned BSN from an accredited CCNE or ACEN School of Nursing
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary educational institutions are required
  • Students need a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Current resume or curriculum vitae
  • Current unrestricted RN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or state participating in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA)
  • Completion of undergraduate or graduate Statistics and Leadership courses with a grade of “C” or higher
  • Minimum of one year (2,080 hours) of full-time nursing experience
  • Current BLS certification
  • Proof of English proficiency

The Online Admissions Office reviews applications and renders an admission decision within 3 business days.

The admission requirements for this program include the following:

  • Online application through NursingCAS: $80 application fee
  • Earned MSN from an accredited CCNE or ACEN School of Nursing
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary educational institutions are required
  • Students need a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • No GRE/GMAT required
  • Current certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse from a US National Certifying Board such as a CNP, CRNA, CNS, or CNM
  • One year (2,080 hours) of full-time experience as an APRN
  • Current BLS certification
  • Proof of English proficiency

The following criteria are considered when reviewing all graduate applications for admission:

  • Current unrestricted RN and/or an APRN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or state participating in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) or be eligible for licensure in Virginia.
  • Earned a BSN from an accredited CCNE or ACEN nursing program.
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the baccalaureate nursing degree and subsequent graduate work.
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Completion of application for admission.
  • Official transcripts to all post-secondary educational institutions. Transcripts should include 8 credits of anatomy and physiology with lab, 3 credits of chemistry (the chemistry can be general, organic or biochemistry), 3-4 credits of microbiology and 3-4 credits of pharmacology.
  • Three letters of recommendation from professional references with current knowledge of professional and/or academic skills. One recommendation must be from the applicant’s immediate supervisor.
  • Completion of undergraduate or graduate statistics course.
  • Current AHA Certification: BLS, ACLS and PALS.
  • Minimum of one year (two years preferred) current, continuous full-time or part-time equivalent, critical care experience* as a registered nurse within two years of application.
  • Critical care certification (CCRN) is strongly recommended.
  • Completion of critical care checklist with clinical supervisor signature.
  • Completion of the Casper situational judgment test (Acuity Insights).
  • Qualified individuals may be asked for more information and invited for an interview.

*Critical care experience must be obtained in a critical care area within the United States, its territories or a US military hospital outside of the United States. During this experience, the registered professional nurse has developed critical decision-making and psychomotor skills, competency in patient assessment and the ability to use and interpret advanced monitoring techniques. A critical care area is defined as one where, on a routine basis, the registered professional nurse manages one or more of the following: invasive hemodynamic monitors (e.g., pulmonary artery, central venous pressure and arterial catheters), cardiac assist devices, mechanical ventilation and vasoactive infusions. Examples of critical care units may include but are not limited to: surgical intensive care, cardiothoracic intensive care, coronary intensive care, medical intensive care, pediatric intensive care and neonatal intensive care. Those who have experiences in other areas may be considered provided they can demonstrate competence with managing unstable patients, invasive monitoring, ventilators and critical care pharmacology.
