Prepare to Become a Nurse Educator with MBU

Ready to move from the bedside to the front of the classroom? Earn your Master of Science in Nursing–Nurse Educator track with Mary Baldwin University. In as few as three semesters, you can build the teaching expertise and clinical knowledge you need to pursue Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) certification and step into educator roles across universities, hospitals, and healthcare organizations. 

With 300 hours of supervised teaching experience across three semesters, this 31-credit, fully online track is designed to prepare you to teach with confidence and clinical credibility—without requiring you to put your career on hold. We also offer a 16-credit Post-MSN Certificate option for RNs with an MSN, as well as an RN-BSN-MSN pathway for ADN-qualified nurses.

Preparation for Nurse Educator Careers

  • Graduates of MBU’s MSN–Nurse Educator track are eligible for Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) certification and may be well-positioned to pursue roles in settings such as:

    • Clinical instructor 
    • Simulation educator 
    • Corporate training specialist

    • Patient education program director 

Admissions Requirements

Applicants to the MSN—Nurse Educator Track should hold a BSN from an accredited nursing program and have at least one year of clinical nursing experience. Admission requirements include the following: 

  • A BSN from an accredited nursing program (ACEN, CCNE, or CNEA), earned with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 
  • At least one year of clinical nursing experience 
  • An unencumbered RN license from Virginia or a state participating in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA)
